Walther Cancer Foundation Honors Charles Loprinzi with Supportive Oncology Award

At this year’s ASCO Annual Meeting, Charles L. Loprinzi, MD, received the Walther Cancer Foundation Supportive Oncology Award, recognizing his extraordinary contributions to supportive oncology and decades of leadership improving the lives of people with cancer.

For Alliance members, Dr. Loprinzi's impact extends far beyond his scientific achievements. A longtime leader in the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology and one of its legacy groups, the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), he built a top-tier cancer control research program and mentored generations of investigators dedicated to patient-centered care.

As Chair of the Alliance Cancer Control Program, Dr. Loprinzi led practice-changing clinical trials that established evidence-based approaches for managing treatment-related toxicities, including chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, hot flashes, oral mucositis and cognitive dysfunction. Over his career, he directed more than 175 cancer control studies, earning recognition from the National Cancer Institute as one of its Top 50 Cancer Control Researchers.

The Alliance congratulates Dr. Loprinzi on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates his extraordinary legacy of scientific leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people with cancer.
