Cancer Survivorship: Optimizing Care And Outcomes
DFCI CME Conference November 12-13

The traditional approach to caring for cancer survivors focused primarily on surveillance for recurrence. In recent years, sparked by the 2006 Institute of Medicine report, this focus has expanded to include health promotion and preventative screenings to reduce the risk of second cancers, and monitoring for the late effects of cancer treatment. Caring for cancer survivors requires bringing together oncology specialists, primary care providers and other specialty providers with the goal of creating a coordinated effort focused on the survivor’s long-term health. However, such care requires that providers become knowledgeable about specific aspects of cancer survivorship care, stay updated on the latest advances, and work collaboratively to provide patients with coordinated, comprehensive care.

Alliance Health Disparities Committee member Ann Partridge, MD, MPH, and her colleague Larissa Nekhlyudov, MD, MPH are course directors for Cancer Survivorship: Optimizing Cancer and Outcome November 12-13 at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Through lectures (with pre- and post-testing) and interactive panel discussions, this conference will educate providers who care for cancer survivors regarding the evolving understanding of the medical and psychosocial aspects of cancer survivorship, the latest research regarding prevention and management, and implementation strategies to enhance participants’ ability to provide high quality, collaborative care for cancer survivors.
