Alliance PEP portal proven to keep patients engaged in trials
A newly developed online tool created by the Alliance called the Participant Engagement Portal (PEP) had an 84% positive rating from clinical trial participants. AFT-38 PATINA trial leads to FDA approval
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved palbociclib in combination with trastuzumab, with or without pertuzumab, and endocrine therapy for locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer, reported dozens of news outlets. including the American Journal of Managed Care, Associated Press, Las Vegas Sun, Investing.com, Nasdaq, Oncology News Central, Intelligent Health Tech, OncoDaily, News Medical, Morningstar, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, PharmExec, Yahoo News, PharmaPhorum, Caledonia Record, China’s PharmaDJ, France’s Benzinga, India’s Pharma Post, Korea’s HealthO, Mexico’s en Farma, and Saudi Arabia’s SAHM. Alliance ATOMIC trial leads to FDA application
The FDA has accepted for review Genentech’s supplemental Biologic License Application for their immunotherapy drug atezolizumab for the treatment of patients with stage III colon cancer with deficient DNA mismatch repair. The application is supported by findings from the phase III ATOMIC trial (Alliance A021502) published in the New England Journal of Medicine. AFT study focuses on improving cognitive function after prostate cancer therapy
A new randomized AFT clinical study found that men with advanced prostate cancer taking the hormone therapy medication darolutamide had less cognitive decline compared to men taking enzalutamide, reported UroToday and OncLive. Read the Alliance news release.
Alliance trial finds oxybutynin provides relief from prostate cancer therapy hot flashes
A randomized trial led by the Alliance has found that oxybutynin, a drug often used to treat overactive bladder symptoms, reduces hot flashes compared to the placebo in men receiving hormone therapy for prostate cancer, reports Renal and Urology News. This primary analysis of Alliance A222001 was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and was part of an Alliance news release.

Alliance selects new committee leaders
Mina Sedrak, MD, from UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Vijaya Raj Bhatt, MD, from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, have been appointed Co-Chairs of the Alliance Cancer in the Older Adult Committee, reported, Business Week, Bioengineer, Science Magazine and EurekAlert.
