Recognize Research Excellence: Submit Nominations for Alliance Lectureships
The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology is currently seeking nominations for two prestigious lectureships: the 2026 Jimmie C. Holland Lecture and the 2027 Charles G. Moertel Lecture:
The 2026 Jimmie C. Holland Lecturer
- Awarded at: 2026 Alliance Fall Group Meeting
- Nomination Deadline: Friday, July 24, 2026
About the Award: Jimmie C. Holland, MD, founded the field of psycho-oncology, a discipline devoted to studying the psychological, social, and behavioral factors affecting cancer patients. A leader in the Alliance (and legacy group CALGB-Cancer and Leukemia Group B), Dr. Holland's groundbreaking work vastly improved treatment outcomes by increasing research and clinical interventions in social, psychological, and quality-of-life issues associated with cancer diagnosis, treatment, and long-term survivorship.
The 2025 recipient of the Jimmie Holland Lecture was Sharon Manne, PhD, FABMR, FSBM of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Eligibility and Selection:
- Criteria: The lecturer will be an investigator whose research has resulted in a major impact in the field of psycho-oncology, demonstrating notable contributions that advance Dr. Holland's legacy.
- Selection Committee: Co-Chairs and Co-Vice Chairs of the Alliance Health Outcomes Committee.
The 2027 Charles G. Moertel Lecturer
- Awarded at: 2027 Alliance Spring Group Meeting
- Nomination Deadline: Friday, September 18, 2026
About the Award: The Moertel Lecture Endowment Fund was established to honor the legacy of Charles G. Moertel, MD, founder of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), one of the three legacy groups that formed the Alliance. Dr. Moertel was renowned for his dedication to high-quality clinical research that provided practice-changing evidence to benefit patient care in the community setting.
Electra Paskett, PhD, FACE, FAACR, FASCO of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital received the honor in 2026.
Eligibility and Selection:
- Criteria: The lecturer will be an investigator whose research within the National Cancer Institute (NCI) National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) and the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) has had a major impact on community cancer practice.
- Selection Committee: Co-Chairs of the Alliance Community Oncology Committee and the Alliance Principal Investigator at the Mayo Clinic.
How to Submit
Any member of the Alliance may submit a nomination. Please email your nomination letter detailing the candidate's achievements to ANFadministration@alliancenctn.org ahead of the respective July and September deadlines.
