ALLIANCE INVESTIGATORS AMONG 2024 ONCLIVE GIANTS OF CANCER CARE INDUCTEES

Two Alliance investigators are among the 15 individuals to be inducted into the 12th Annual Class of OncLive® Giants of Cancer Care recognition program. 

The Giants of Cancer Care program honors and celebrates the accomplishments of leading researchers and educators whose discoveries have propelled the field and set the groundwork for future advancements. A selection committee of more than 115 esteemed oncologists, researchers, and clinicians choose honorees from a range of tumor types and specialized categories. The inductees have been selected by their peers for their remarkable achievements in oncology research and clinical practice. 

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 7 pm CDT at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, IL. 

This year’s inductees from Alliance are:

Ethan M. Basch, MD, MSc — UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center
Award Category: Supportive, Palliative, and/or Geriatric Care

Dr. Basch specializes in the treatment of men with prostate cancer and has led and participated in many of the national guidelines on the treatment of prostate cancer. He leads a research program focused on improving the patient-centeredness and quality of cancer care and oncology drug development and has developed tools with the National Cancer Institute that are widely used for collecting symptom information directly from patients. Dr. Basch is a member of the Alliance Cancer Care Delivery Research Committee and the Alliance Health Outcomes Committee.  

Kelly K. Hunt, MD, FACS, FSSO — The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Award Category: Surgical Oncology

Dr. Hunt’s work has influenced the surgical paradigm in the management of breast cancer and facilitated incorporating neoadjuvant systemic therapies in order to target specific biologic subtypes. She is a member of the Alliance Breast Committee and Alliance Cancer Care Delivery Research Committee. Dr. Hunt has also served as Principal Investigator and Director of the Alliance/American College of Surgeons Clinical Research Program.
