2018 ALLIANCE FALL GROUP MEETING
Are you ready for the Alliance meeting?
If you've never attended an Alliance meeting or this is your umpteenth one, here are some helpful tips on how to prepare and get the most out of this upcoming experience.
- First and foremost, download the Alliance Meeting App! This updated app allows you to stay up-to-date on session changes and meeting room assignments, connect with fellow attendees, and much more. To get the app, go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, search for "2018 Alliance Fall Meeting" and download it. Then create an account with the e-mail you registered with and a new password.
- Agendas for most sessions and some presentation slides can be found on the Alliance website. Be sure to print and bring them with you. Printed copies will not be available at the meeting.
- Be sure to pick up your name badge at the Alliance Registration Desk.
- Feel free to attend any session or meeting that is not described as "closed."
- Some sessions can get quite crowded; arriving early to get a seat is wise.
- Don't be shy! Attending the Group meeting offers a great opportunity to ask questions as well as to just network with your peers, in general.
- Be sure to complete all evaluation forms. These allow meeting/committee planners to tweak and improve content or even change topics altogether for the following Group meeting.
- While some dinners and lunches are provided, breakfast is usually best eaten at your hotel. The nearby outlet mall has a great food court for other meals not provided. Keep in mind your institution's and the Alliance's policies on reimbursement, as such if you need to retain itemized receipts.
- Chicago weather, along with the climate control in the meeting rooms, can be fickle; dressing in layers is your best bet.
- If you're flying into the Chicago O'Hare airport, follow the signs from your arrival gate to where ground transportation and shuttle buses are. Each hotel has a bus that swings by the airport and will take you to your hotel. It's too far to walk from the airport to your hotel.
- While the check-in and security lines at the Chicago O'Hare airport move surprisingly quickly much of the time, bear in mind it is a very large airport and you need to allow yourself the maximum time to check in, clear security and travel to your gate.
Safe travels!
