CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
DIRECTOR, ALLIANCE CANCER CONTROL PROGRAM

The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology announces a call for nominations for the position of Director of the Alliance Cancer Control Program (CCP).  Dr. Jan Buckner has retired from his position as the Director of the CCP.  Alliance wishes to extend its deepest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Buckner for guiding the Alliance CCP over the past 10 years.  Under his leadership, the CCP has significantly expanded the depth and breadth of cancer control research conducted by the group.  The CCP has also ensured the success of Alliance overall by engaging outstanding leaders in community oncology in research across the entire spectrum of Alliance trials.
 
It is hoped that Alliance members will help fill this important Alliance position with another outstanding leader.  Below is a brief description of the Alliance CCP and qualifications needed to excel in this role.  Please send nominations, with a CV, to Anne Arezina at aarezina@alliancenctn.org.  The deadline for receipt of nominations is July 24, 2020.

 
Alliance Cancer Control Program
 
The Cancer Control Program (CCP) conducts innovative scientific studies, including interventional, methodological, and health policy research, to help reduce the incidence, morbidity and mortality of cancer in broad populations. The program is designed to help researchers better understand the factors that affect cancer risk, identify opportunities to prevent cancer or reduce the impact of cancer and/or its treatment on the patient, improve patient quality of life, and evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of strategies to prevent and control cancer in academic settings, the community and in underserved populations.
 
Committees: Cancer Care Delivery Research, Cancer in the Older Adult, Community Oncology, Health Disparities, Health Outcomes, Prevention, Symptom Intervention

Key Qualifications:

  • Must be a strong and inspiring leader to engage the broader oncology community in development of cancer control, prevention and cancer care delivery research.
  • Able to maintain and further strengthen the close relationship between the Alliance and the community oncology research community, including the NCI Community Oncology Research Program.
  • Advanced background in clinical research, with experience enabling research directed toward the Cancer Control Program goals.
